In this witty, insightful new Single, Paul Reiser — the #1 New York Times bestselling author and star of TV’s classic sitcom Mad About You — recalls his memorable encounters with legendary Hollywood greats whose advice, friendship and example showed him how to be a better artist and better man. By turns touching and comic, Reiser shares the intimate details of inspiring backstage moments with comedy greats such as Bill Cosby, Carl Reiner, Neil Simon, Carol Burnett, and Peter Falk, and what they taught him about life, work, and creativity. Finding himself at a loss for advice as his own children come of age, Reiser invokes an age-old joke — “How do you get to Carnegie Hall?” — to remind us that some things never change, especially the eternal value of hard work and practice. It’s a lesson consigned with wisdom, humor and an unabashed love of life, by one of America’s most beloved comedians.

As a seasoned actor, writer, and stand-up comedian, Paul Reiser has appeared in many films and television shows, including co-creating and starring in the critically acclaimed NBC series, Mad About You, which garnered him multiple Emmy, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild nominations. He is the author of the New York Times bestsellers Couplehood and Babyhood, and most recently, Familyhood. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two kids.

How To Get To Carnegie Hall Single eBook Paul Reiser

This kindle single is funny and at times poignant. The reflective nature of Reiser's writing surprised me -- and the nuggets of wisdom he relates from his experiences with noted personalities such as Bill Cosby and Mel Brooks are well-worth reading. He wrote this to dispense "commencement-type" advice because his son recently graduated from high school, but I'd highly recommend this to anyone who aspires to be a writer or work in the entertainment/Hollywood industries. What he writes about "practice" and "fade in and keep going" is great advice and pretty motivational as well.

How To Get To Carnegie Hall Single eBook Paul Reiser Reviews

Some great insights into the creative minds of several comic icons including Mr. Reiser's whose voice you can't avoid hearing as you read the words. We've been watching DVD's of Mad About You over the past few weeks so this book (it is really more of an essay) is very timely and provides some unique insights into how the show was done. But Paul!! You gotta get whoever's in charge (whomever?) to release Season's 6 & 7.
I have an interest in biography of all kinds and this one was not an"you will never guess what I did next??" It's almost like a lesson, or a letter to his public to learn values. I was always fond of Paul R. but this book makes him more real and moral. I did take attention to the message--and I like him!
I loved Reiser's books and I was thrilled to be able to read anything new by him. It was fun hearing a bit from behind the scenes of Mad About You, and it was interesting to read his reflections on life and success. I hope he writes another book soon, but if not, I hope he keeps the singles coming!
Anyone who ever has laughed at Paul Reiser will like, love or laugh while reading this book. I was a little disappointed at how short it was but it allowed me an hour of fun reading and some wonderful laughs. It also made me remember some of the wonderful talents I was lucky enough to watch in my lifetime. I miss watching Mad About You but this brought back some of the funny memories from the show. Paul's son and his graduating Class was very lucky to have such a wise and funny man give them such sage advice.
Few comics have the ability to somehow get the voice and timing of their acts to the written page so well that I actually laugh when I'm reading it to myself. I don't mean the LOL laugh that people use as often as a comma these days, I'm talking actual noise coming out of my mouth. Paul Reiser has that ability and uses it effortlessly in this single.

Reiser shares memories of working with some of his famous co-stars, like Carol Burnette and Carl Reiner. The remembrance of Carol Burnette alone is worth the price of admittance. This reader is hoping this single is but a taste of a new book from Reiser that shares behind the scenes stories of working on the hit television show, Mad About You. If he isn't, Paul, please do!

Check out his other books too which are sure to make you, at the very least, LOL.
Loved it! Downloaded it right before going to work because of Jerry Seinfeld's recommendation on Twitter. I was late for work. It was a good read and worth the money. But as is always the case when I read something good, I was left wanting more.
I particularly enjoyed his insightful look at human behavior, specifically with Peter Falk. All comics seem to poke fun at behavior, but Paul was able to process the intention behind the behavior rather than attack the behavior itself. Very mature. His ability to not take things personally was astounding to me. You'll understand what I mean once you read it. So what are you waiting for? Download it already!
Buried within this lesson of the virtue of hard work are treasured anecdotes of comedy legends. Reiser begins by elaborating how simple the advice of practice is, although it often involves more than it appears. Since his stand-up days, I have always loved how Reiser's point-of-view came from the inability to explain things. His comedy was often about common things we take for granted, like technology, but how the average guy couldn't explain how devices that made things simple really worked. Who better to use this relatively new format of the Single to reach modern audiences with his fresh material? Life lessons quickly are enhanced by his personal experiences with comedy legends like Carson, Reiner, Falk and Brooks. It is a treat that he shares these stories through his own eyes as a fan, in addition to glimpses behind his classic 90s sitcom, "Mad About You." Sadly, the 90s has already become retro so it is beneficial than the minds of Reiser and his idols are on display for new fans and old.
